London & Southern Counties Finals Day

Saturday 2nd September was the annual London and Southern Counties Finals day held at Bounds Green London.

Bletchley Town had participants in the pairs and the triples and were the second most represented club at finals day behind Camberley who had a very successful season winning the Shield, Gold Badge and Fours.

In the pairs Alex Squires and Dave Clay were in their third final in as many years and were trying to complete a unprecedented hatrick of wins. The game always looked like it might me close after dropping a 4 on the first end and picking up a 5 on the second end to make the score 5-4 after just 2 ends. The game was backwards and forward throughout but the Bletchley duo managed to lead 20-15 with just a few ends to go. Their opponents from Holtwhites in Middlesex nibbled the lead back to be just 1 behind (22-21) playing the last end with the Bletchley boys holding a good two Ernie the opposition skip trailed the jack for 3 shots and put the jack in a very difficult position to get to. Dave played weight with his last to try to cut the count down but unfortunately just missed so Bletchley ended up losing 24-22. A great 3 years for the pair with 2 wins and a runners up spot something they should be very proud of.

Our triple of Dave Labrum Rhys Lee and Dean Brookes took on 3 from Eastleigh Railway in Hampshire. They started off well with a 4 on the first end before dropping three 1s to leave the score at 4-3 after 4 ends. The Town trio then changed gear and picked up two 3s and two 4s to lead 18-3 just four ends later. This lead was enough to defend and Bletchley cruised home to a 23-13 win after 16 ends

The Bletchley players would like to thank all their supporters who traveled Bounds Green on Saturday to cheer them on.
